The 2026 Subaru Uncharted represents a bold new direction for the brand. As a subcompact electric SUV starting under $40,000, it brings Subaru durability to a whole new segment of drivers. However, because it breaks some traditional rules (like offering Front-Wheel Drive), we are hearing a lot of questions from our Killeen customers.
At Cleo Bay Subaru, we want to ensure you have the facts before you buy. Below, our EV team answers the top questions about the Uncharted's drivetrain, speed, and daily usability.
Drivetrain & Performance
It depends on the trim level. The entry-level Premium trim is Front-Wheel Drive (FWD). This setup prioritizes range and affordability. The Sport and GT trims come standard with Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive, delivering the traction you expect from a Subaru.
It is surprisingly quick. The dual-motor GT trim produces 338 horsepower and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under 5.0 seconds. This makes it one of the quickest vehicles Subaru has ever produced, rivaling the acceleration of the WRX.
Yes. For 99% of driving in Killeen, Temple, and Austin, the FWD Premium trim is perfectly capable. The heavy battery pack is mounted low in the chassis, providing excellent stability. If you frequently drive on muddy ranch roads or loose gravel, we recommend upgrading to the AWD Sport trim.
Yes, but only on AWD models. The Sport and GT trims feature a dual-function X-MODE® system with settings for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud. This system manages power delivery to individual wheels to maintain grip in slippery conditions.
Charging & Battery
Yes. The 2026 Uncharted comes standard with a NACS (North American Charging Standard) port. You can plug directly into Tesla Superchargers without needing an adapter, giving you access to the largest fast-charging network in the country.
The single-motor FWD configuration is the efficiency champion of the lineup. It offers an EPA-estimated range of over 300 miles on a full charge. The more powerful AWD models are estimated at approximately 285 miles.
Using a DC Fast Charger (Level 3), the Uncharted can recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. For daily charging at home using a Level 2 wallbox, a full recharge takes about 9 hours overnight.
Size & Features
Yes. The Uncharted is a subcompact SUV. It is approximately 7 inches shorter and sits lower to the ground than the Solterra. This makes it easier to park in tight city spaces but results in slightly less rear legroom and cargo capacity (25.4 cubic feet).
No. To maximize range and interior space, the Uncharted comes with a Tire Mobility Kit (compressor and sealant) located under the rear cargo floor.
Every 2026 Uncharted features a massive 14.0-inch touchscreen display running the latest Subaru multimedia interface. Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are standard across all trims, eliminating the need for cords.
Yes. The Sport and GT trims are equipped with a heat pump system. This technology heats the cabin more efficiently than traditional resistance heaters, preserving driving range during chilly Central Texas winters.
Purchasing
Eligibility depends on the specific battery sourcing and assembly location, which can change during the production run. Currently, we expect the Uncharted to qualify for at least partial credits. Our finance team will check the latest IRS status for your specific VIN at the time of purchase.
