Every 3,000–5,000 Miles: The Basics That Matter Most
Even with modern synthetic oils extending change intervals, we recommend bringing your Forester in every 3,000 to 5,000 miles for an oil and filter change. Subaru's horizontally opposed Boxer engine has a unique design that makes clean, properly filled oil especially important for long-term health. During this visit, our team also performs a multi-point inspection, which includes checking tire pressure, fluid levels, lights, and windshield wipers. These quick checks catch small problems before they become costly ones.
Every 15,000 Miles: Filters and Fluids
At the 15,000-mile mark, we recommend replacing the engine air filter and cabin air filter. Gravel roads, air pollution, and dusty highways all take a toll on filtration. Every 90,000–100,000 Miles: Major Overhaul Territory
Reaching 90,000 to 100,000 miles is a testament to good ownership and a signal that several major components are due for attention. On older Forester models with a timing belt (pre-2011), replacement is critical at this interval, as a snapped belt can cause catastrophic engine damage. Water pump replacement is typically done at the same time. Brake fluid, coolant, and transmission fluid should all be fully flushed.
